Rider Research has prepared a special report to help bring you and your staff up to date on the smart TV market.

Smart TVs (Internet-connected TVs) have become the norm. In the next three to five years, we think, every home in the "developed world" will have at least one. The nature of the entertainment and consumer electronics industries will change forever as the 250 million or so homes in North America, Europe and the Pacific Rim buy them.

The report is the second in a series of reports on smart TVs published by Rider Research. We survey the market and review the events and trends that have occurred since the beginning of this year. Based on the current evidence, we make predictions and pass along forecasts of other companies.

The charts alone are worth the price of admission. They show which apps are on each smart TV, Blu-ray player and smart TV adapter.

Rider Research does not publish detailed predictions about sales of smart TV sets and adapters to be sold. However, if you ask Americans or Canadians about their experience streaming shows from Netflix to their TV, and almost all will respond positively.

Substitute the name iPlayer in the UK and the result is the same.
