Fed: Ast to donate medical supplies to Baghdad
The federal government will donate three planeloads of medical supplies to Baghdadhospitals as part of a new military operation dubbed Operation Baghdad Assist.
Defence Minister ROBERT HILL says the government recognises Iraqi hospitals have beenstretched by the war and wants to help relieve some of the pressure.
He says the first batch of medical supplies will come from HMAS Kanimbla and be deliveredto the Iraqi capital by an Australian or United States transport aircraft.
It will be supplemented by two Hercules loads of supplies direct from Australia.
Senator HILL says the supplies will be distributed around Baghdad hospital with advicefrom US military doctors.
