Fed: Three days warning for new fire front

CANBERRA, Jan 21 AAP - A strange calm fell over Canberra's northern suburbs today asresidents prepared to face a new bushfire front.
Fires continued to burn behind containment lines about eight kilometres west of Canberra,sending a smokey haze across the city.
But with temperatures climbing to 36 degrees, and with strong winds forecast to blowthe flames towards the outer northern suburbs, locals remained on alert.
Unlike their counterparts in the south-western suburbs of Duffy and Chapman, thosein the Belconnen area had three days to prepare.
